Museums of the City

 

The Brandenburg an der Havel City Museum presents exhibitions at two locations:

The Museum of Industry has focussed its work on the preservation, care and presentation of the Siemens-Martin open-hearth furnace. It also deals with the history of the steelworks and steel making in the city of Brandenburg. [more]


 

The Cathedral Museum in Brandenburg an der Havel displays liturgical textiles, altars, books and sculptures from the period of the 13th to 16th Centuries in the medieval rooms of the former Norbertine monastery. [more]


 

The Archaeological Museum of the state of Brandenburg in the Dominican monastery provides an overview of the around 50,000 years of continuous cultural history of Brandenburg through around 10,000 exhibits. [more]


 

In addition to City Museum, Cathedral Museum and Museum of Industry, there are 11 other museums and exhibitions in Brandenburg an der Havel - a considerable number for a community this size. The museums present excerpts from the past of the historical city. Some exhibitions were designed by professionals; some have been built up from the collector's own resources and creativity. In the city of Brandenburg you will find a variety of memorials. The basis for this is the state-supported anti-fascist culture of remembrance, as established from 1945 to 1989. After 1989 previously hidden injustices could be named and remembered. [more]
