The Brandenburg Archaeological Museum provides a fascinating overview of the approximately 50,000 year cultural history of the state of Brandenburg on 2000 sqm of exhibition space. About 10,000 finds from archaeological excavations take visitors on an exciting journey through time. From the earliest traces of Palaeolithic man in Brandenburg, the journey continues through the oldest woven net in the world, Neolithic surgical operations and Bronze Age sacrifices, through the Germans and Slavs to the first cities of the Mark, and ends with specific findings from the 20th Century. Not only weapons and metal objects show facets of life in the past. It is often everyday objects which grant a direct, sometimes intimate, insight. Multimedia presentations, artistic illustrations of life, fascinating models and computer stations awake a passion for exploration of the people and their interactions with the environment. The state Archaeological Museum is located in the recently restored medieval Dominican Friary (Paulikloster) in Brandenburg an der Havel. The complex was built in 1286-1497 by Dominican monks and is one of the best preserved medieval monasteries in the northern German brick Gothic style.
