Theatre has a long tradition in Brandenburg an der Havel

There has always been an enthusiastic audience for theatre and music in the Havel city. Through the turbulent years since 1817 drama and music theatre have always been performed; a theatre orchestra was founded in 1871. The Brandenburg theatre also offers a broad spectrum of cultural variety, ranging from musical theatre to a puppet show. A particular focus of the performance schedule is placed on the children’s and youth theatre.
The Brandenburg theatre is centrally located in the Theaterpark, between the old and new town. In 1996 the studio stage was rebuilt and in 1999/2000 the "big house" appeared with about 400 seats in place of the old theatre. The bright, spacious foyers are appreciated by the audience and are themselves popular event venues. In addition to chamber music concerts and readings the building is also rented out for exhibitions and events. The whole complex was converted into a "Cultural Congress Centre" which also offers extensive conference and congress facilities.

The Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra is the musical ambassador of the City of Havel. As the orchestra of the Brandenburg Theatre, they inspire not only in-house audiences  at the regularly sold-out symphony concerts and various musical performances, popular special concerts in the Museum of Industry, the Brandenburg Cathedral, in the Church in the Dominican Friary or the open-air concerts at Beetzsee are part of the scheduled program of cultural life in the city. The orchestra also participates in music and opera productions in other Brandenburg cities and often makes guest appearances throughout Germany and abroad, the musicians having already toured Japan, South Africa, Spain and China. In addition to classical and contemporary music, interesting crossover projects and promotion of young musicians also belong to the focus of the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra.
