The art school was founded in 1878 by the sculptor August Wredow (1804-1891) and has operated as a foundation since 1886. In 1946 the school was liquidated and the art collection deposited at the art collection in the homeland museum. The art school was refounded in 1990 by the Brandenburg Association of Art School Sponsors. From 1997 it is again under the auspices of the Foundation, which was revived in 1992. It is dedicated to the continuous promotion of artistic talents for children from 4 years until graduation or until the conclusion of training.
The school offers courses in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpting, communication design and applied photography. A portfolio course is offered in each semester, important for creating an impressive portfolio collection for interviews at universities and art schools. New in our program is the parent/grandparent-child course, in which children of 4-6 years can be artistic together with their parents or grandparents.
Lecturers at the art school are freelance artists and Brandenburg high school teaching staff. School registration is at the beginning of each semester: at the end of August (autumn semester) and February (spring semester). The Academy of Craft & Design prepares craftsmen and trade workers for the recognised "designers in craft" qualification.
