General Schools

Primary Schools
The task of primary schools is to promote students with different learning backgrounds and learning abilities in a common course of education so as to develop foundations for independent thinking, learning and working as well as experience in interpersonal relations. Through professional and interdisciplinary teaching they mediate a basic education leading to further learning in the upper secondary schools.

Secondary Schools
The secondary school provides a basic and advanced education including the extended secondary school certificate/extended basic school leaving certificate (erweiterter Hauptschulabschluss/erweiterte Berufsbildungsreife) and the secondary school leaving certificate/intermediate high school diploma (Realschulabschluss/Fachoberschulreife).

High Schools
The high schools provide an in-depth education and include the secondary school completion and university qualification (allgemeine Hochschulreife).

Special Schools
The special schools provide general education and the elementary and secondary education courses, and the courses for obtaining a vocational school leaving certificate equivalent qualification.

Oberstufenzentren (Colleges)
The centres include the secondary and lower/higher vocational and technical courses.

All-day Schools
All-day schools are based on the life and learning needs of students and focus on development opportunities, social interaction and the quality of learning opportunities. They seek to be welcoming and supportive places for children and young people.
