A sanctuary from the Slavic period
The 32.5 meter high Friedenswarte on the Marienberg was opened in 1974. Over 180 steps lead to the observation decks that provide a panoramic view of Brandenburg and the surrounding area.
On the Marienberg, which at about 50 meters is the highest point in the city, there were already striking structures several centuries before construction of the Friedenswarte, a sanctuary from the Slavic period for example, several Christian buildings from the 12th Century, an optical telegraph pole and a war memorial in the 19th Century, and from 1908 the Bismarckwarte.
